45th Annual Spring Show- East of the Watershed
Douglas Udell Gallery Edmonton
April 27th- May 11th, 2013
Opening: Saturday, April 27th, 2-4pm

Celebrating 45 years in Edmonton, our Annual Spring Show will feature Canadian and International collector items and new acquisitions from gallery artists.

The Spring Show will feature John Maywood's East of the Watershed. The paintings in this group of works depict the water sources of the Rocky Mountains Eastern Slope. The fresh water melting from the Athabasca glacier feeds the rivers which flow across the prairies nurturing wildlife and agriculture, and the urban centers of Edmonton, Calgary, Regina and Saskatoon. This exhibition celebrates the life which this watershed creates. In the future it is unlikely that the outflow from the Rockies will continue at its present rate. This is a record of what we had just yesterday.

John Maywood was born in England in 1949. He graduated from the Alberta College of Art in Calgary in 1974 receiving an ACA Diploma. He attended the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta taking Art History, Arts, Social Science, Education and Fine Art. John also studied Museum Management at Grant MacEwan College. John worked as a Botanical Artist at the University of Alberta, Plant Science Department and the Devonian Botanic Garden. An exhibition entitled Glory Hills, four paintings of the parkland landscape was exhibited at the Edmonton Art Gallery in 2003. John completed four art works for the UN 2011, Year of the Forest (Out on a Limb). This exhibition traveled throughout Alberta for two years. Its inaugural opening was at the Art Gallery of Alberta, September 2010. John currently works as the Curator of the Multicultural Public Art Gallery in Stony Plain. In 2011, John was nominated President of the Board of the Visual Arts Association of Alberta and chosen Visual Arts Chair of the 2012 Alberta Winter Games.
